Early July including the 4th

We just finished a pretty eventful and fun week back from vacation, it’s hard to believe we just got back from vacation a bit over a week ago! It’s also hard to believe how tall the false sunflowers in front of our house grew while we were away!

On Monday John headed to Michigan to do some house sorting out activities for the following weekend.

Monday evening I headed to Pratt to join the swim group for a lake swim.
On Tuesday Sarah and I went to see an outdoor movie at millennium park. We saw The Sandlot, which I hadn’t seen before. It was fun!

On Wednesday, Liam and Bronwyn took the train to Michigan in time for a sunset swim.

On Thursday, I had a morning Dr appt then met Sarah for lunch (a three-peat, what a treat!) then took the afternoon train to Michigan. John picked me up at the station and we went back and filled the afternoon with snacks, games and general hanging out. Liam and bronwyn’s friend (also named John) arrived on the next train. We had a yummy dinner with pasta and fresh peas, then went to the lake for a sunset swim.

Friday John and I visited a local lavender farm, called Lavender Bliss. It was so nice, super peaceful and smelled wonderful. It’s a family business that started during Covid – they had 5 acres and wanted something to do. Very productive Covid project! Highly recommend a visit.

There are many varieties of lavender growing
And flowers other than lavender too!
The little white building is a very sweet greenhouse
You can pick lavender and buy it by the bundle
Along the roads there are so many tiger lilies in bloom
Friday evening we had another amazing dinner at the house. Thanks John for all the great meals!
This was a potato pesto, watermelon and fresh corn

After dinner we went for a sunset swim again, but during and after this one fireworks started up along the beach. Some were really impressive! The beach was really crowded, not our usual quiet stretch of lake at all! It was fun though.

I’ve been drawing seasonal fruit and vegetables, and lavender
On Saturday, Ellen came to visit. I’d just assembled the group for a photo when she pulled into the driveway, so it was kinda like they were waving at her
They had a nice trip to tabor hills winery then the beach before she headed back to elsewhere in Michigan , where she and her boyfriend were staying with his family

On sunday we dropped Liam, Bronwyn and John back at the train station and we went to see a zombie movie. It was really hot here throughout the weekend and we just felt like sitting in a cool, dark space for a while! We both really enjoyed 28 years later (the zombie movie). It rained Sunday afternoon and cooled off a lot.

Monday after work and dinner we took a walk in the dunes. The grasses were really pretty and there were a lot of yellow flowers (this photo doesn’t do it justice!)
We’ve started up running on the beach before work! It’s nice to be back in running mode. That’s John ahead of me on the beach.
Then me putting off the big stairs for a few seconds! The lake was still this morning after a choppy day yesterday.

  1. So much to comment on! I’m particularly impressed by the lavender farm, drawing, beach runs and all round summery vibes!
