Portland visit

We’d wanted to visit miles in Portland before he moves this summer, and while John wasn’t able to get away due to a lot of work travel coming up, I found a good set of flights and went myself. Miles was very nice to pick me up at the airport and we went to his place where I met Joanie the cat. Then we walked the 5 mins to a nearby Airbnb where I’m staying. He lives in a really lovely area called Irvington.

We met Zoe at a cafe called Dear Sandy then went to another nearby place called the chandelier with new paintings, including this toasty crow.
Then we went to a west African restaurant, near this living (plants form the hair) mural.
Miles and Zoe inside Akadi, where we had a really good meal!
Then we went to Hopscotch, an interactive art experience. This was inside a color drench room, which was a bit overwhelming so we all had to sit down. To the eye, it felt much more yellow orange than red inside.
Ball pit inside hopscotch! You could lie down and really sink down under the balls.
Very fun camera / video room with special effects based on music and your movements. Here’s miles
And miles and Zoe as the camera saw them
Then the projection from the camera
That’s a combo of Zoe on the left and then turning into miles
Next day! It’s raining but the flora really is amazing here. Massive rhododendron!
Nothing special but just so much green by and over the sidewalk!
After meeting miles for breakfast, he headed to work and I had booked a soak at McMenamins Kennedy School pool. This is the very cool hotel / venue in a former school where we went to max’s graduation party this time last year. There’s a hot pool outdoors you can soak in and I had a very relaxing time in there today! Emerged wrinkled and relaxed, not knowing where the hour had gone!

Then I walked over to Alberta Street to take in the little shops and cafes. All super nice, including Melville books, and a fabric store with an impressive collection of sashiko thread. And this sign with a number for reporting potholes! I got a tea at just bob cafe, unicorn themed, and read my book in a big comfy chair. Then hopped on the bus back to my Airbnb to relax some more before Caroline’s graduation party tonight!

  1. Looks like you’re having a great trip. Some of those pics from the museum where it looks like lots of people are lined up reminded me of Riverdance! Also i wouldn’t be surprised if there’s quite a few similarities between Portland and Melbourne!
