It feels like a warmer version of spring break around here. Liam and Miles are out of school this week and don’t start camp until next week. I am of course in school but can’t resist going out for some fun in the city in the morning, promising that I’ll hit the books in the afternoon.
First, we went to the Whales: Giants of the Deep exhibit at the Field Museum. The exhibit was made by the The Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa and is about half about the evolution and science of whales and the other half on the relationship between whales and the Maori people. Very interesting! It was also bilingual, English / Maori.

There’s a new waterfall area outside the museum, in between the Field and the Shedd. We found out the hard way (stern word from someone with a clipboard) that you are not allowed to climb on the rocks. Maybe a sign stating this would help?
Gotta love the Replica of colossal Olemec Head # 8, also between the Field Museum and the Shedd Aquarium
Then we went to Chicago Avenue near Ashland, to go to the West Town library and stop in our favorite pie shop, the Hoosier Mama Pie Company. For readers who aren’t specialists in midwestern in-jokes, Indiana is known as the Hoosier state. People from there are called “Hoosiers.” As far as I know, nobody knows what this means. It’s pronounced “hoozsher”, so when you say the name of the pie company it’s “who’s yer mama”, which is fun to say. And their pie is so, so fun to eat. We got a lemon chess pie, which is like lemon bars in a pie shell.
Then we saw this stencil on the street that Liam and Miles both think looks like Miles. Possibly in the way they both need a haircut???

Sounds like a fun morning, seeing the whale exhibit and the waterfall. Hoosier Mama pie must be really good!
