On Monday afternoon we took an Uber out to Siberia Spa in the forested mountain area outside of Quebec City. It was so nice – with many features like previous spas, like a series of buildings and pools all outdoors, and you can stay as long as you like, going from a sauna to a hot pool, to a cold pool, to a relaxation room.
We really enjoyed the forested setting at Siberia. it was so pretty – and the pools / rooms were arranged so they felt secluded from one another. There’s a relaxation yurt with hammocks inside, and many fireplaces and fire pits. Unfortunately 2 of the Finnish or dry air saunas were out of operation for to a fire last week (yikes!) but there was plenty to do.
We also finally got into the swing of taking a break for lunch mid experience and eating on a cafe in bathrobes. Full cult participation at this point!
It was pretty cold there and so we had our first experience of damp towels freezing while we were in a hot pool! The hot pools are called California baths in French and many people wear wooly hats while in them. It’s so pleasant to float around in hot water outdoors in the fresh cold air. Not many photos because of the difficulty in taking them and managing a phone in this setting!
Siberia has 2 cold plunge pools and an icy river.
I crowned John the king of the cold plunge – he was already really excelling in staying calm and controlling his breathing in the cold pools, then he did this!
We also got to experience sunset / nightfall while outdoors at the baths, which was really lovely. We met 2 French women who just emigrated from the south of France to Quebec and it was nice talking to them. So after several hours at Siberia spa we showered (funny way to end after already being in water for hours!) and ubered back to the city. Here’s dinner and funicular at night back in p-c!
