The black-eyed susans are lovely but have been coming back in such force they needed some thinning and scooting over. Today I dug up a lot of them and thinned them out to other places around the yard. We also put some in front of Sergio and Beatriz’s house. The benefit to all this is that the space is organized much better now–in the picture below I’ve circled the area in yellow where there are still a lot of the black eyed susans, and I’ve put red arrows around the area that used to also have those plants. Once I get some mulch down we’ll be able to put the chairs out up to the brick, which used to be a lot tighter space.

Your garden is looking great! I think there should be a program where you can donate your excess plantage (yes, I know) to someone who want them. It seems a shame trimming back perfectly growing things and getting rid of them when someone else could use them. But sometimes the alternative is an unruly tangled mess (or in my case, a jade and aloe plant that are getting a little out of control.) It’s nice that Sergio and Beatriz got some of the black-eyed susans. Look forward to seeing how the veggies work out this year!
Garden is very impressive… we were going to get Mom & Dad over here to get our garden sorted when we move but you’re becoming a close second!
Thanks, Debbie and Colette! Debbie, people do plant swaps–there’s one I know of that I’ve always meant to go to, but this is probably the first year I would have had something to contribute! You can also do some guerrilla gardening, aka planting in public spaces when nobody’s watching, to get rid of excess plantage (I like your word!) There are also seed libraries (you can imagine how excited that convergence of activities is for me!), including a new one in Chicago that I’m hoping to participate in next year. And Colette, that is quite a compliment! I am honored to be a second to the Kennys in the garden category and will happily consider a gardening job down under!
That is an interesting term: “guerilla gardening.” I’ve thought about thinning out my iris and planting the excess somewhere around Longview Lake. Haven’t actually done it, though.
