First half of march

We usually keep focused on the bigger picture here but I have to share that I went swimming tonight and shared a lane with a swimmer who made such a splash and left such a wake that it was like sharing a lane with Neptune and his team of white horses.

Lots happening here since we returned from Merida! Within a few days, I’d been so looking forward to Mildred visiting, so it was quite a drag to wake up sick the morning she was due to arrive. Terrible timing. Mildred and I met in the summer of 1988 when I was doing a volunteer project in Germany. This was our first reunion since! We had a really nice time even through masks and limited activities here, going through a lot of old photos from that summer when we travelled all around Germany together, from Hamburg to Bonn, Berlin, and Goettingen. Here’s some then and now! Selfies together were hard back then, with a manual focus 35mm camera!

Mildred is a photographer now and I liked getting a photo of her taking photos on the 606.

More photos from the 606, the arts building where we got a coffee at dayglow, and the park.

Another sunrise / sunset! And very silvery river looking north from the division bridge, with some very deteriorated pilings in the river.

John caught the river downtown looking very green this week for st patrick’s day!

Maddie played the big bad wolf in a production of shrek during the week. She and the other performers were really great! Here she is with two friends who were not in the play but came to watch and a friend / performer on the right.

On Sunday we met nana, Debbie, Jeff, Maddie and Liam at the Garfield park conservatory then they came over for dinner. The conservatory’s penny message was also at patrick’s day themed. I even explained it (using some excellent pronunciation!) to 2 people who didn’t know how to say failte. the spring flower was particularly nice this year!

Last piece of news, john got an e-bike! It’s flexible enough for me to ride too, and we both really enjoyed our test rides!
